Presentations: Publish & Export
Publish presentations to the web, export as PDF/PPTX/PNG, sync to Google Drive, or convert from flowcharts and notes.
Editable Preview: References, Copies & PowerPoint
The optional editable-deck preview offers separate choices:
- Existing deck (.theodeckref): Save to Drive creates a reference to the same cloud deck, not a duplicate. Recipients still need access to the presentation; sharing the file does not grant it.
- Editable copy (.theodeck): an independent portable backup, including speaker notes and saved source excerpts. Importing it creates a new document; it does not overwrite the original cloud deck.
- Editable PowerPoint: where available, exports supported text, basic shapes, images, tables and bar/line/pie/donut/area/radar charts as native objects, including chart values and notes. Unsupported objects receive reported placeholders.
- Visual snapshot: a PowerPoint file containing slide images. Choose it deliberately when you want the rendered appearance rather than editable slide objects.
Review the compatibility report. Fonts are referenced, not embedded; missing fonts and unsupported styling may change the result. Check your exported deck in PowerPoint or Google Slides before presenting. Full animation, SmartArt and visual round-trip fidelity are not promised.
The editable preview does not yet expose the web-publishing or Google Drive controls described below, and its server exports do not support PDF/HTML. Those sections describe the established Creator/legacy editor.
Preserve Original or Redesign with Theo
Where the editable preview and PowerPoint import are available, choose Preserve original to recover supported PowerPoint objects without asking Theo to rewrite the deck. Review the preview and compatibility notes before importing a new copy. Redesign with Theo instead extracts content into the existing outline workflow for rewriting and redesign.
Preserve reads direct text/runs, basic shapes, raster images, tables, cached chart data and speaker notes. Masters, complex effects, animations and fonts may differ. PDF object recovery is not supported. Local editable files are limited to 25 MB; cloud documents currently support up to 3.5 MB.
Publish to Web
In the Creator/legacy editor, turn a presentation into a publicly accessible web page. Open the Publish panel from the toolbar. Publish once, then the settings sections unlock along the left and a live preview on the right shows exactly how the page will look:
Overview
Copy the public link, open the page, show and download a QR code for the room, republish after edits, or take the page down.
Link & access
Choose a URL-safe slug for the page (e.g. present.opencharts.com/my-deck), require a password to view, and control search engine indexing.
Appearance
Set the page background behind your slides — a solid colour, gradient, uploaded image, MP4, or a YouTube/Vimeo link, with a darkening overlay for readability. Place a logo in any corner, upload a favicon, and show or hide the OpenCharts badge.
SEO & social
Set a custom page title, meta description, and keywords, plus the social preview image used when the link is pasted into a chat or posted on social media.
Mobile
Recreate every slide as a native 9:16 portrait design. Phone viewers get the mobile deck automatically, with a toggle back to the original. Each slide image is redesigned individually, so it uses AI credits and takes a minute or two per slide.
Export Formats
Export the entire deck as a multi-page PDF. Each slide becomes one page. Supports standard and widescreen aspect ratios.
PPTX (PowerPoint)
The standard Creator export places slide images in a PowerPoint file with speaker notes; the image's text and objects are not individually editable. Use the editable preview's native export for supported editable objects.
PNG (per slide)
Export individual slides as high-resolution PNG images. Useful for social media, thumbnails, or embedding in documents.
Google Drive Integration
Connect your Google account from Settings → Integrations → Google Drive. Once connected, you can export presentations directly to your Drive.
Exported files are saved as PDF in a designated OpenCharts folder. Export history is tracked so you can see when each version was pushed.
Flowchart → Presentation
Convert any flowchart project into a slide deck. From the flowchart editor toolbar, click Convert → Presentation.
The converter analyzes your flowchart structure and generates slides that walk through the flow step-by-step: one slide per major node or branch, with the flowchart excerpt as a visual on each slide.
Notes → Presentation
Turn rich-text notes into a presentation. From the notes editor, click Convert → Presentation.
Headings become slide titles, paragraphs become body content, and images are placed as visual elements. The converter preserves the document structure to create a logical slide flow.
